Oxeye Daisy

Leucanthemum vulgare

Overview

Oxeye daisy is a perennial herb from Europe that invades meadows, roadsides, and disturbed areas. While attractive, it can form dense stands that crowd out native wildflowers and grasses. It is unpalatable to livestock and reduces forage quality.

How to Identify

Perennial 1-3 feet tall. Classic daisy flowers with white ray petals and yellow center disk. Basal leaves are spoon-shaped and toothed. Stem leaves are smaller and clasping.

Control Methods

Hand-pull or dig before seed set. Mowing before flowering. Competitive seeding with desirable species. Herbicide treatment for large infestations.

Herbicide Recommendations

Clopyralid or aminopyralid. Apply in spring or fall.

⚠️ Always read and follow pesticide label directions. Contact your county weed superintendent for site-specific recommendations. Permits may be required near water.
