About Us

About Skyline CWMA

A voluntary partnership protecting the rangelands, forests, and agricultural lands of central Utah from invasive noxious weeds.

Our Mission

Cooperative Action for Healthier Lands

"The mission of Skyline CWMA is to protect and restore the ecological integrity and productivity of the lands within Carbon, Emery, Sanpete, and Utah counties by facilitating cooperative, science-based detection, control, and prevention of noxious weeds - uniting private landowners, local governments, state agencies, and federal land managers in a shared commitment to the health of our landscapes."

Noxious weeds are one of the greatest threats to the productivity and biodiversity of Utah's rangelands, forests, and agricultural lands. They reduce forage for livestock and wildlife, increase erosion, degrade water quality, and cost Utah landowners and agencies millions of dollars each year in control and lost productivity.

Background

What is a Cooperative Weed Management Area?

A Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) is a voluntary partnership of public and private land managers who work together across property boundaries to manage noxious and invasive weeds. CWMAs are authorized under the Federal Noxious Weed Act and supported by the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food.

🤝

Voluntary Partnership

Participation is entirely voluntary. Partners contribute resources, expertise, and labor according to their capacity and land management responsibilities.

🗺️

Landscape-Scale Approach

CWMAs coordinate treatment across property boundaries, which is essential because weeds don't respect fence lines. Coordinated action is far more effective than isolated efforts.

💰

Leveraged Resources

By pooling resources and coordinating grant applications, CWMAs can accomplish far more than any single partner could alone. Cost-share programs help private landowners access treatment assistance.
