Elongated Mustard

Brassica elongata

Overview

Elongated mustard is an annual or biennial plant from Eurasia that invades roadsides, rangelands, and disturbed areas. It can form dense stands that crowd out native vegetation and reduce forage production.

How to Identify

Annual or biennial 1-4 feet tall. Yellow flowers typical of mustard family. Long, narrow seed pods pressed against the stem. Leaves are deeply lobed at the base, becoming smaller up the stem.

Control Methods

Hand-pull or hoe before seed set. Herbicide treatment in early growth stages.

Herbicide Recommendations

Chlorsulfuron, metsulfuron, or 2,4-D. Apply in early spring or fall.

⚠️ Always read and follow pesticide label directions. Contact your county weed superintendent for site-specific recommendations. Permits may be required near water.
