Overview
Dame's rocket is a biennial or short-lived perennial from Eurasia that was widely sold as an ornamental wildflower. It is now illegal to sell in Utah. It invades roadsides, forest edges, and disturbed areas, displacing native wildflowers.
How to Identify
Biennial or perennial 2-4 feet tall. Showy purple, pink, or white 4-petaled flowers. Resembles garden phlox but has 4 petals (phlox has 5). Alternate, toothed leaves.
Control Methods
Hand-pull or dig before seed set. Herbicide treatment for larger infestations. Do not plant or purchase.
Herbicide Recommendations
Glyphosate or 2,4-D. Apply before flowering.
