Overview

Small bugloss is an annual or biennial plant from Europe that invades agricultural fields, roadsides, and disturbed areas. It competes with crops and native plants and can spread rapidly in disturbed soils.

How to Identify

Bristly hairy plant 6-24 inches tall. Small blue flowers with white centers. Leaves are lance-shaped and rough-textured. Resembles borage but smaller.

Control Methods

Hand-pull or hoe before seed set. Crop rotation and competitive seeding with desirable species. Herbicide treatment in early growth stages.
